The HCK Group welcomes Lee Kok Cheng (pix) into its fold as Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer, Education Division.
His duties including running the Peninsula International School Australia (PISA), which is set to be the first school in Malaysia to offer Australia’s Victorian Curriculum based primary and secondary education for students from Year 1 (Age 7) to Year 12 (Age 18).
PISA is set to open in January 2018 with its main campus situated in the Setia Alam township in Shah Alam, and a second campus in Menglembu, outside of Ipoh, Perak a year later. Registration of interest at the boarding school for the Setia Alam school begins in March.
PISA’s curriculum is delivered through partnerships with The Peninsula School (TPS), a prestigious school in Melbourne, Australia. Currently, the Victorian Curriculum is offered at 25 schools worldwide.
“The Victorian Curriculum is pretty controlled. To offer the curriculum outside Victoria, we must partner a local institution, which will control quality,” Lee was quoted in The Star recently.
“Other international schools tend to develop their own curriculum. We are partnering a school that has almost 55 years of experience, and will replicate a tried-and-tested formula,” said Lee.
PISA will offer the Victoria Certificate of Education, a university entrance exam recognised by many colleges in Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
“Students learning the curriculum here will get the same experience as those who are studying in Australia, but at a fraction of the price,” Lee reportedly said.
Lee has extensive experience in the educational field, and is no stranger to HCK, having worked in various capacities in SEG International Bhd since 2003 under HCK Executive Chairman Tan Sri Clement Hii, until his retirement in 2013.
He received his honours degree in computer science from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 1985 and went on to obtain an MBA from the University of Dubuque, Iowa, United States in 1996.
In 2009, Lee completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Business Research from the University of Newcastle, Australia, as part qualification on a DBA programme.
Lee worked with several educational institutions for 18 years before joining SEG International Berhad as Vice President of Group Operations in June 2003. During that period he was also the Principal of SEGi College Subang Jaya.
He served as an Executive Director of SEG International Bhd since June 28, 2005.
In 2007, he started SEGi’s flagship campus in Kota Damansara and served as the Principal until the campus was upgraded to University College status in 2008.
He served as Group Chief Executive Officer of SEG International Bhd, from Feb 27, 2009 to Jan 1, 2012 and also served as its Chief Operating Officer since January 2005.
Lee served as Deputy Managing Director of SEGi until his retirement.
He has been Non-Executive Director at HCK Capital Group Berhad since Feb 5, 2014.
